Who We Are

Cornerstone Church is much more than a building, an organization, a person, or a Sunday. Cornerstone Church is made up of families, students, professionals, novices, musicians, artists, actors, accountants, deejays, baristas, young and old, male and female who are united together because of Jesus Christ. Our collective desire is to intimately know, closely follow, and perpetually glorify God by living passionately for Jesus and His mission. We gather together to worship God and to help each other grow in our faith. We go out to live missionally as a lifestyle taking the truth of Christ into every area and subculture. Cornerstone Church is the result of a desire for Christ-centered, biblical preaching; a relevant and authentic worshipping community; impactful, sincere and caring relationships and a desire to reach people in our city and around the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Cornerstone Church SCV Values

1. Worship One True God (Deut. 6:4-5; Psalm 99:5, Romans 12:1)

The very nature and essence of God's being demands that His creation worship Him. The Bible teaches that we are created for relationship with God and that the chief aim of man is to enjoy God and worship him forever. Therefore, we desire the Authentic Worship of our Creator prompted not by an austere commitment, but borne out of a natural expression of love, awe, fear and affection.

2. Authority of God’s Word (Ps. 19:7-11; 2 Timothy 3:16)

We value biblical, Christ-Centered Preaching because we believe that the Bible is how God has revealed Himself to us. It tells us who we are, and how we should live in light of who He is. At the center of the biblical narrative is Jesus, creator, redeemer and Lord. The Bible is not only truth about faith in Jesus and spiritual things, it is truth about the whole of life-impacting every facet of our lives. Therefore we commit to the systematic, expository teaching of the whole counsel of God's word.

3. The Gospel Mission (Matt. 28:18-20)

This includes:

  • Engaging the culture with the gospel by living as a countercultural city within a city, showing our city what true humanity looks like as we live as God created us to live. (Acts 17:16-34-the example of Paul) (Jeremiah 29)
  • Missional living by each individual as salt and light. (Matthew 28:18-20, Matthew 5:13-16)
  • Participation in the global mission to make Jesus Christ known to all people. (Matthew 28:18-20)
  • Showing mercy to the poor and needy which reflects the mercy and justice of God. (2 Corinthians 8, Micah 6:8)
  • The continual commitment to planting churches and leading a church multiplication movement in order to reach many communities for Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:18-20)

4. Biblical Community (Hebrews 10:24-25)

As Christians we believe that Jesus gave us a specific mission - The Great Commission. Therefore, we believe that it is the calling of every Christian to intentionally engage the world around us with the redeeming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To love, serve and seek the redemption of more than just individuals but also the community as a whole—brought upon by the transforming power of the Gospel. Through missional living, our desire is to be God's agents in redeeming those whom He has called.

5. Maturity (Ephesians 4:12-15)

This includes:

  • The priority of one-on-one discipleship
  • Building biblically healthy marriages and families that function according to God's design.
  • Leadership development and ongoing shepherding
